Let´s
start with aceitunas rellenas de anchoa, then taste a bit of Zwiebelwurst,
go on with gravad lax and then drink some Früh Bier.
As a main course I would suggest cochiglie a broccoli, maybe you
could drink a glass of lietuviskas midus staliskes.
Desert might be polvoron sweet or fruits de mer or any of the
chocolates and cooky varieties ‘on the tables’.
The Irish were flabbergasted. Mara and Mark, both from “abroad”
but so much interested in Gaelic Ireland were easily “drawn”
into the group. Hearing a young girl calling out “Hey, that’s
Connell!” while watching last year’s film says it
all. This is where locals and other people meet. This is where
we all feel ourselves part of a greater universe.

Preparation
Work
|
For preparing
the Reception Party that was held in the Achill Cliff House, we
were divided into different groups, each with different tasks.
Some of us collected the food, others were in charge of the name
tags decoration, presentation and performance, which was all well
coordinated by a strategic group.

We did some good field work and attracted many inhabitants of Achill.
It was a pleasure to find such a big interest for our project. I
think almost all of our workshop groups found an Irish person that
would like to be involved in their work.
During the reception the visitors could taste a bit from all over
Europe and even some candies from the Philippines. They could also
see a glance of the virtual community developed by VC4U and see
the film of last years’ project.
Some students performed with some traditional dances that many guests
dared to join. We invited everybody to our farewell party on Friday
evening, where we will present the results from the workshops.

Come
Together, Work Together
|
The figures:
2 pm, 40 people from 11 countries, speaking 15 languages are looking
forward to meeting the Achill inhabitants. The feelings: Before
our reception everybody was involved in the preparations, curious
about what to come and soon we welcomed the first guests. We were
delightfully surprised by the overwhelming interest in our work.
Mingling through the room at Achill Cliff House everbody being
part of this gathering was quickly integrated. The guests asked
us about the food, our lives, our impressions about the island,
and we asked them about their lives on Achill, the weather, the
beautiful landscape, which places they had visited. Some of them
knew the project and a few participants from previous editions.
For most of them, the project was something new. They enjoyed
the video from last year and had a look at the Achill Virtual
Community home page. The facts: Appointments were made, addresses
exchanged and so now we know that we will see them again throughout
the week on Achill to continue exchanging impressions and spending
time together in the workshops.
